崖の上のポニョ (Ponyo, Ponyo, Ponyo!)

Ponyo, Ponyo, Ponyo, sakana no ko… aoi umi kara yatte kita…

Yes, I went to see the new Studio Ghibli movie, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea today (more info here too). It was only my second time in a Japanese cinema, and my first to see a movie entirely in Japanese! Luckily, Ponyo is a child character, and therefore speaks in pretty simple Japanese, so I actually got a lot of the movie, not just from the pictures but from the dialogue too!

It was ridiculously cute and utterly adorable (what else would you expect from Japan?), with gorgeous graphics (I just loved the jellyfish), and a completely catchy theme song (see trailer below!). Also, being Japanese animation, it was quite fantastic and a little strange. I think even with English subtitles I wouldn’t have understood it completely…

I highly recommend it, if you’re not sickened by total and utter cuteness! 😉
