When I was in Kyoto in March I came across this unbelievably cute DVD in a touristy gift shop, and I impulsively bought it. It was playing on a screen in the shop and, even though I didn’t really know what I was watching, I thought it was too beautiful to leave behind.
I finally got around to watching it properly today, and thought I would be able to simply Google and find out more information about it. However, I’ve come up with next to nothing!
So, this is a call out to all my readers who can read Japanese – can you help me translate this please? おねがいします！
The main song on the CD is 京おんな (Kyo Onna) and I think the artist is called ゆうつきみやこ (Miyako Yuutsuki). I found her on Twitter, but she’s tweeting in Japanese. The CD comes with a DVD, and here’s the video that is on it:
It seems to be produced by Tokuma Japan Communications, and the name “Amuse Inc.” is also on the CD. I think Amuse Inc. is the record label and Tokuma Japan Communications is the distributor, but I could be wrong!
On the CD insert, there is a page which helpfully says “Story” in English. Unfortunately, the story is written in Japanese. There are way too many kanji for me to read, so if anyone can help me figure out the gist of this “story” I would be most grateful!
I’ve also scanned in the lyrics, in case that helps to shed any light on this:
Even without being able to understand this enka song, I love the video. It is so beautiful and cute, all at the same time. I guess it must be about a Kyoto girl, but the video seems to show some kind of love story too. I wonder what the song is all about, and also who the artist really is?
If anyone can help me figure this all out, I’ll love you forever! 😉
