Postcard from Japan: Name That Buddha

For those of you that don’t know, I love bug Buddhas. It’s hard to explain, but there’s something very calming about their faces. Can you identify this one…?

Ushiku Daibustu

Hint: it’s not the Great Buddha of Kamakura. It’s even greater!

This is the Ushiku Daibustu. It was quite a trek to get there, but totally worth it. More to follow in a future post!

  1. I too love Buddha images, be they Japanese or any other Asian style. The one in your photo looks awe-inspiring. Good luck with your travels in Japan, by the way (I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous at all – cough, cough!) 🙂
